Vietri: A Family Affair

Behind every great company is a great story of how it all began. While vacationing on the Amalfi coast of Italy, a mother and her two daughters, Lee, Susan and Frances Gravely, were in awe over the vibrant and beautiful hand-painted clay dishes used at the hotel they were staying in.

Determined as ever to find who made these Italian dishes, the three ladies met with the artisan in a nearby town, Vietri sul Mare. Days after the meeting, the family packed up their suitcases with sample pieces and their dreams of forming a company that symbolizes the exuberant lifestyle and allure of the Italian dining culture.

Little did they know the sample pieces they brought home would eventually become, Campagna, Vietri’s leading dinnerware. After others expressed interest and appreciation for the pieces, they decided to import the dinnerware and sell to retail stores throughout the United States. Honoring the name of the town where it all began and playing off the phrase “tre vite,” Italian for “three lives,” they named their company, Vietri. Vietri is now the largest importer of handcrafted Italian tableware and home décor products.

The Bellezza collection is one of Vietri’s bestselling and a favorite among brides. Its name couldn’t be any more fitting as “Bellezza” is the Italian word for “beautiful.” Its combination of exquisite, chic designs makes this collection a must-have. To achieve its look, Tuscan artists use antique embossing tools to form the complex details that grace both the front and back of the handcrafted pieces.
